Position Description
Ontario Colleges Library Service (OCLS) is seeking a highly motivated Services & Support Associate to work in OCLS’s Electronic Resources (eResources) Management service<https://www.ocls.ca/Electronic_Resources>. As part of OCLS’s eResources team, the successful candidate will participate in the management of electronic resources on behalf of Ontario’s 24 college libraries while providing customer service directly to college library staff.
The Services & Support Associate will also have the opportunity to work with other OCLS services and systems. As capacity allows, special projects may be assigned.
Key Responsibilities
· In a collaborative environment, participate in the acquisition, renewal, licensing, and administration of electronic resources to ensure cost-effective, consistent, and integrated access for the Ontario college libraries;
· Serve as a contact for college library staff and vendors of electronic resources in the coordination and promotion of eResources trials, offers, webinars, or other training opportunities;
· Work with other OCLS staff to develop tools, protocols, and services that improve efficiency and workflows;
· Create and maintain records in OCLS’s electronic resource management system (ERMS);
· Maintain knowledge of relevant trends and issues for the full range of electronic resources and digital content management tools in the field;
· Work effectively within OCLS’s eResources, Services, and Technical teams to deliver exemplary customer service and support to Ontario’s 24 college libraries;
· General administrative support as required for OCLS’s services and systems including but not limited to the College Libraries Electronic Access Rights (CLEAR) and Remote Access services;
· Participate in additional services and projects as assigned.
Desired Qualifications
The qualifications listed below are highly desirable but not necessarily mandatory. Candidates are invited to demonstrate how their skills, knowledge, and experience would best fit this position in their letter of application.
· A recognized graduate degree from a library and information sciences program or library technician program;
· 1-2 years’ experience working in or with libraries (experience in an academic library or library consortium setting would be an asset);
· Demonstrated interest or experience with electronic resource management, such as:
o eresource acquisitions or vendor relations;
o reviewing or negotiating licence agreements;
o troubleshooting online access issues;
o use of an electronic resource management system (ERMS), or experience creating and maintaining eresource metadata or other database records.
· Excellent problem solving and analytical abilities;
· Strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to synthesize complex or ambiguous information into clear and concise statements;
· Strong commitment to outstanding customer service (experience providing remote customer service would be an asset);
· Highly motivated, with demonstrated ability to take initiative and lead small projects;
· Detail oriented with strong organizational and administrative skills;
· Understanding of practices and trends in the access and use of licensed electronic resources, such as open URL resolvers, ebooks, discovery layers, course management systems, EZproxy, single sign-on, and electronic resource management software;
· Ability to manage competing priorities;
· Strong knowledge of and experience with Excel;
· Proven ability to work both independently and as part of a team;
· Fluency in French would be an asset;
· Familiarity with Canadian copyright and/or AODA legislation would be an asset;
· Project management experience would be an asset;
· Experience with Drupal or another web content management system (CMS) would be an asset;
· Experience with audio/video editing software would be an asset.
