Head of Research and Instructional Services - Stephen F. Austin State University, Ralph W. Steen Library, Nacogdoches, Texas
The Stephen F. Austin State University Ralph W. Steen Library, located in Nacogdoches, Texas, is seeking a head of research and instructional services librarian for a12-month, tenure-track position. The head of research and instructional services oversees library research and instructional services in support of academic programs, directs the development of the department liaison program, provides leadership in developing working relationships with library, university and community partners. This person works under limited supervision with extensive latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. The position reports to the associate director for information services.

Key responsibilities:

  *   provides leadership in the development of programs and services to support research and instruction and develop strategies to enhance collaborative communications with the academic disciplines
  *   directs the development of the department liaison program to facilitate communication with academic departments
  *   provides research consultation and instructional support for students and faculty members  in assigned subject areas, including distance and off-campus users through Ask-a-Librarian and virtual reference services
  *   oversees the collection selection and de-selection processes in conjunction with the associate director of information services, head of cataloging services and the electronic resources/assessment coordinator
  *   engages in research/scholarly/creative and service activities at levels that are appropriate to faculty rank and departmental tenure/merit criteria
  *   provides leadership and oversight of departmental assessment/accountability activities related to the library and university strategic plans
  *   collects data and writes reports for internal and external audiences, including the library annual report
  *   participates in the selection, hiring, training, supervision and evaluation of all departmental staff members in accordance with library and university policy
  *   serves as a member of the Library Administrative Committee, and serves, as needed, on other library and university committees
  *   recommends policy and organizational changes to library administration.



Required: Master's degree in library science from an American Library Association-accredited institution

Preferred: Possess extensive knowledge of electronic services, basic knowledge of issues dealing with scholarly communications, including digital publishing, open educational resources and data management.



Experience:  A minimum of three years of related experience is required.

Librarian Rank:  Librarian rank is determined by level of experience, publications, membership affiliations, etc. Minimum requirements listed are those for the Librarian II rank.

Salary is commensurate with experience.
