[Eril-l] Nexis Uni - share your experience

We switched to Uni in December. The search experience has not improved; I have heard from reference staff that the search experience is actually worse. For weeks, we have had the problem where linking into Uni from another resource (e.g., our discovery layer) for full text prompts the user to sign in—as if it is not possible to use Uni anonymously. I believe this issue is resolved as of late yesterday, but we are still testing.

I also feel linking at the article level does not work well. I was interested to see Kathleen’s note about the report that OpenURL linking at the article level is not supported. That probably accounts for all our link failures, though I have to do some more testing to be sure.

Like everyone else, I suggest you hold off as long as possible.

Hi Melissa,

We have swapped our LNA for Nexis Uni, I believe sometime last November, on our Databases A-Z list but I haven’t yet removed LNA from our Full Text Finder link resolver/A-Z journals list for a couple of reasons. We still have access to both platforms and I’ve noticed that there’s some titles that are in LNA that are not in Nexis Uni. It also took a while for the links to work properly for Nexis Uni through the link resolver and while it appears to be working now, I’m still a bit hesitant to remove LNA as a package. The downside (quite minor) is that if a title is available in both packages, they are both listed as access points so it’s a little redundant.

As for users, I haven’t heard any comments from patrons or library staff that have had trouble with Nexis Uni but that doesn’t necessarily mean there hasn’t been frustration or confusion or anything else going that needs to be addressed. I think we did a demo webinar for librarians and a heads up to library staff when we put up Nexis Uni on the Databases page.

So for now, I’ll keep things as they are until I absolutely have to take LNA off as a package from the link resolver.

Hi,
We in Canada have been waiting for the US rollout of Nexis Uni (the replacement interface for LexisNexis Academic) for awhile and are now being asked if we'd like it this May or next May.
We really hate LNA but haven't had any chance at all to see Uni even as a demo.

So those of you who already have it, can you please share what you think of it?
In particular, is it stable, or are there still functionalities broken/unimplemented or are they still changing major aspects of the interface mid-year?

In short, if we don't have a lot of time to keep re-training people, is it stable enough that you'd recommend that we ask for it this summer or wait another year?
