The ALCTS Collection Management and Electronic Resources Interest Group (CMERIG) is pleased to announce its program for ALA Annual in New Orleans. The program's theme is Textbook Affordability and will feature a panel discussion.

Time:
Sunday, June 24, 2:30 - 3:30 PM

Location:
Morial Convention Center, Room 281-282

Program:
Textbook Affordability: Practical Applications and Visions
As the college textbook market expands, prices continue to grow prohibitively expensive for students. Given the demands and limitations of a typical student budget, students are increasingly forgoing the purchase of required textbooks or opting out of courses altogether.

In this climate, libraries have taken an active role in providing more affordable options to the traditional textbook market. This session will feature panelists discussing textbook affordability initiatives at their respective institutions. The affordability solutions addressed will balance current theory and practice, and feature applicability to colleges & universities, community colleges, and libraries beyond.

This promises to be a lively session, with ample time for discussion between the panelists and audience. Attendees will gain an understanding of the current textbook affordability landscape, learn why affordability matters, and leave with an outlook on future pathways for textbook affordability.
