ALCTS webinar: Leading Technical Services in the Future

This webinar is 90 minutes in length and will begin at 11am Pacific, noon
Mountain, 1pm Central, and 2pm Eastern time.

Description: This webinar will consider the role of technical services in
the library of the 21st century, and the importance for library leaders to
understand the positive impact technical services librarians can have on
attaining strategic goals. The webinar will identify current trends in the
broad library and scholarly publishing environments, the impact of digital
technology on researchers’ information workflows and scholarly
communication, and the impact of open science on research and libraries.
The potential role of technical services in driving library responses,
including the curation of the scholarly record, a drive towards large-scale
distributed library collections, and campus research information systems
will all be reviewed in detail.

Presenter:

Keith Webster is Dean of University Libraries and Director of Emerging and
Integrative Media Initiatives at Carnegie Mellon. Previously, Keith was
vice president and director of academic relations and strategy for John
Wiley and Sons and before that held library dean and director roles at
universities in Australia, New Zealand and the United Kingdom. Keith serves
on the Board of Directors of NISO and PALCI, and on the Publications Board
of the Association of Computing Machinery.
