The University of Texas Libraries seeks a dynamic, forward-thinking, and resourceful individual to lead the newly-forming Content Management Unit. Depending on qualifications, the successful candidate will be appointed as a Librarian III or Librarian IV. The position is responsible for the oversight and coordination of 32 staff, including the direct management of 5 staff. The successful candidate will be joining an exciting and restructuring organization enabling new and innovative approaches to both content acquisition and description. This Head of Content Management effectively coordinates operations, staff, and initiatives for the acquisition, description, and processing of materials for the UT Libraries in all formats and languages.



Essential functions: Oversee staff and workflows for ordering, receiving, describing, and processing of library materials in all formats and languages. Provide leadership in rethinking and realigning unit workflows, investigating new approaches to support emerging collection initiatives, and implementing new strategies for evolving metadata standards. Coordinate operations and workflows between the unit and other library departments or units. Contribute to fostering ongoing growth and professional development of staff. Promote a culture of innovation and continuous improvement of services, workflows, and best practices. Seek out and engage in appropriate campus, regional, and national partnerships and conversations. Participate in development and grant opportunities for relevant projects or initiatives when appropriate.




Requirements

LIBRARIAN III required qualifications: Master's degree from an ALA-accredited program. Minimum 5 years of professional experience as a supervisor or manager of relevant operations (acquisitions, cataloging, and/or metadata creation) in an academic library. Demonstrated excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities, projects, and stakeholder interests effectively. Demonstrated aptitude for learning new tools and technologies and creative problem solving. Demonstrated effectiveness at working collaboratively on projects and initiatives. Successful experience managing and developing staff to achieve established goals and initiatives. Demonstrated ability to act as a change agent to improve departmental operations. Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Evidence of implementing current and emerging best practices related to acquisitions and bibliographic description. Evidence of ability and desire to engage professionally. Demonstrated ability to work well under pressure and to meet deadlines.



LIBRARIAN III preferred qualifications: Experience working with Sierra. More than 5 years experience managing relevant operations in a large research library. Demonstrated ability to develop, evaluate, and enhance production-oriented processes related to acquisitions and/or content description. Familiarity with materials budgeting, expenditure processes, and consortial acquisitions agreements. Experience negotiating contracts and conducting Request for Proposal (RFP) processes. Experience with a national cooperative cataloging program such as PCC (NACO, BIBCO, CONSER, or SACO). Familiarity with existing and emerging metadata standards and schemas, such as RDF, XML, Dublin Core, schema.org, linked data, and BIBFRAME. Experience with relevant operations in support of distinctive and/or international collections. Experience with formal assessment and evaluation methods. Experience engaging professionally at a leadership level on a national and/or international scale.

SALARY AND BENEFITS:  $69,996 annually, or more, depending on qualifications and experience.  No state or local income tax.  Standard state benefits package including annual vacation and sick leave, paid holidays, retirement plans, and health insurance options (comprehensive major medical, dental, vision, life, and disability).  Deferred compensation and tax sheltered annuity programs also available.
