ALCTS e-Forum: The Weeding Planner: Managing Massive Weeding Projects

May 2-3, 2017

Moderated by Cristina Caminita and Andrea Hebert

Please join us for an e-forum discussion. It’s free and open to everyone!

Registration information is at the end of the message.

Each day, discussion begins and ends at:

Pacific: 7 a.m. – 3 p.m.

Mountain: 8 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Central: 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Eastern: 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.

As libraries transition away from spaces designed to store and organize
physical collections to spaces designed to support the needs of
researchers, students, and communities, library professionals will need to
engage in physical collection weeding projects. Although each weeding
project will be unique, approaching weeding projects from a project
management perspective can structure what can sometimes feel like an
overwhelming undertaking. Project management requires leaders and
participants to identify weeding project goals and objectives, to map roles
and duties to phases of the project, to develop project timelines and
prioritize milestones, to anticipate challenges and setbacks, and to
deliver on the project in a timely manner.

Moderators

Cristina Caminita is the Head of Research and Instruction Services at LSU
Libraries. Her responsibilities include creating innovative programming
designed to assist faculty and students in their research and to support
undergraduate and student instruction.

Andrea Hebert is a Research and Instruction Services librarian at LSU
Libraries. She serves as the liaison to the Schools of Education, Social
Work, Kinesiology, Library & Information Science, and Human Resource
Education as well as distance learning programs.

What Is an e-Forum?

An ALCTS e-forum provides an opportunity for librarians to discuss matters
of interest, led by a moderator, through the e-forum discussion list. The
e-forum discussion list works like an email listserv: register your email
address with the list, and then you will receive messages and communicate
with other participants through an email discussion. Most e-forums last two
to three days. Registration is necessary to participate, but it's free.
