Discovery & Delivery: Job Opportunities Shape the future of libraries. Position: Discovery & Delivery Systems Analyst (career position) About us

DESCRIPTION OF DEPARTMENT: The California Digital Library (CDL) supports the education, research and public service mission of the University of California in partnership with the ten campus University of California Libraries system. The CDL assumes a leadership role in the development of strategies and initiatives that guide the University's libraries through the transition to the digital future. The primary user base for CDL services and programs include UC faculty, students and UC Libraries staff.

POSITION OVERVIEW: Reporting to the Technical Team Manager, the Discovery and Delivery Systems Analyst serves as a domain expert in both library and key technical domains, maintaining community connections and information flow related to library systems software, standards and infrastructure. The position demands solid knowledge of core library systems and academic publishing workflows, as well as demonstrated ability to think strategically about evolving systems in new directions to meet emerging needs. Responsibilities include administration of current product implementations, but the primary emphasis is on the big picture: understanding what the various components of academic library systems are and how they integrate rather than on any specific software implementation.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

System Management

* Serve as technical lead and administrator for key software systems for the UC Libraries.

* Provide expertise in the architectures and integration points of current and similar systems.

* Manage the flow of multiple data streams governing the configuration these key systems.

* Understand and document integrations and interactions between these key systems and campus, content vendor, and other third party systems.

* Cultivate strong working relationships with software vendor technical staff, and work with them to monitor services and report and troubleshoot service degradations and interruptions.

* Work with content vendors to manage administrative accounts, and with campus partners on data extracts, usage reports, customizations and problem solving.

User Support and Needs Analysis

* Analyze complex business and user needs.

* Document requirements and translate them into specifications.

* Provide advanced support and training on new applications.

* Serve as a mentor and domain expert to colleagues within CDL and on UC campuses.

System and Process Definition, Evolution and Evaluation

* Works with or leads cross-functional teams to design and specify new systems or processes, or to evaluate or modify existing ones as user needs change over time.
