Many thanks to the members of this listserv who chimed in on- and off-list
about how libraries can advertise newly acquired electronic resources!
Below are the answers to my question:
-
Analog (non-online) methods:
-
Create handouts or distribute vendor promotional flyers
-
Design a flyer in PowerPoint highlighting electronic resources and
print up several hundred copies to distribute to faculty, hang up around
the library, and distribute at events. (this is done annually)
-
Hang up posters
-
Mention during instructional sessions
-
Mention in the bathroom newsletter “Loo Lines” (which also includes
mention of upcoming events, workshop, hours changes, etc.)
-
Offer training on new resources (advertised via email or RSS feeds)
-
Verbal promotion when you run into faculty members (mentioned at
least 2 times)
-
Email methods:
-
Create subject title lists to be sent to liaisons so they can
personally email relevant information their faculty. Also include any
resource changes (additions, cancellations, migrations, trials, etc) in
this email. (mentioned at least 7 times)
-
Create a weekly newsletter (of sorts) for staff that lets them know
about new resources acquired, new trials, reminders about
expiring trials,
training sessions that may be coming up, and updates to existing
resources
(e.g., new platform, new content, etc.).
-
Distribute a monthly newsletter to faculty and a separate one to
students which highlights a new or existing database, using Mail Chimp.
-
Email all faculty and staff with announcement
-
Email affected colleges with announcement
-
Email specific librarians and/or faculty members with announcement
-
Email signature: put links to resources you want to target in your
signature
-
“Patron Services” RSS feeds/emails
-
Personal email sent to a faculty member you know from a university
interaction
-
Post to a library listserv
-
Library website methods:
-
Create banner for library homepage (mentioned at least 3 times)
-
Include in a “New and trial” section on the A-Z list (mentioned at
least 2 times)
-
Provide access via the catalog, LibGuides, etc. (mentioned at least 2
times)
-
Social media methods:
-
Blog posts on the library website (mentioned at least 5 times)
-
Post to library social media channels (Facebook, Twitter) (mentioned
at least 3 times)
-
Create relevant YouTube videos
-
Relevant presentations:
