Dear

The UKSG Annual Conference and Exhibition is a major event in the scholarly
communications calendar and each year attracts over 900 librarians,
publishers, content providers, consultants and intermediaries from around
the world.

The conference combines high-quality plenary presentations, lightning talks
and breakout sessions with entertaining social events and a major trade
exhibition.

UKSG looks forward with eager anticipation to its return to the Bournemouth
International Centre for the 2016 conference from 11-13 April 2016.

So far, we can announce the following plenary sessions:

*	Michael Jubb, Consultant – How far has the UK got towards open
access and what have been the costs and implications?
*	Charlie Rapple, Kudos – Data diving: understanding cause and effect
in reputation management
*	André Avorio, Alexander Street – Open Music Library – a
community-curated open index of the world’s scholarly music resources
*	Sarah Pittaway, University of Worcester – Engaging students, shaping
services: the changing face of student engagement at The Hive
*	Emma Mulqueeny, Rewired State – Google – Digital Child
*	Cameron Neylon, Centre for Culture and Technology, Curtin University
– Investing in scholarly futures: communities, funding and the
reimagining of research communications

This year delegates will be able to attend 8 breakout sessions choosing
from 32 topics.

Whether you are a conference veteran or a first-timer, the UKSG Annual
Conference is one of the most important events of the year for those working
within the knowledge community.

Ohh, I really like LibTech, though it is in my backyard so to speak. There
are only typically a few e-resources management sessions though. Many are
general user experience/ technology/ etc., but with an emphasis on gaining
practical knowledge. It has a great vibe and great content, but look at the
sessions to see if there is enough of the type you are looking for. Also,
last year LibTech filled in 25 hours and they had to shut off registration.
So if you want to go, set an alarm clock for this coming Wednesday the 9th
at noon CST. :)

I have a love/ hate relationship with Computers in Libraries Conference
(that others have mentioned). It can be inspiring, and I LOVE the DC
location, but also can be such a cliquey cult of personalities, with some
people doing multiple sessions that I feel are all flash and no substance.
Or I just get bored of hearing the same topic by the same person over and
over
I feel like I enjoy it more if I don’t go every year, if that makes
any sense.

ERIL is my first recommendation to.

I have also heard good things about – but never attended – the LibTech
Conference <http://libtechconf.org/> . Their conference is shorter, and
consequently cheaper, that the others and may be a good fit if funding is a
concern.

Have fun,

Erin

ER&L is excellent. NASIG is specifically serials, so it might not give you
enough coverage on other things, like ebooks and other e-services - I don't
go to it so I don't know for sure.

Another excellent one, but a little more expensive, is Computers in
Libraries. It's hosted by a for-profit though, so if your funding requires
non-profit conferences only, that one would be out. But I've been blown
away with ideasx every time I've gone.

Every other year is the LITA conference too. Depending on what scope
"electronic resources librarian" has for you, if it includes for instance a
big role for content on your website, you might find the LITA conferences
very helpful.

Fortunately pretty much everyone keeps past conference info online nowadays
so you can look around and compare.

Hello Colleagues,

Although not new to Libraries, I am new to the role of Electronic Resources
Librarian. Our travel budget is very limited, but I have received
permission to attend a conference this year. What would be your collective
recommendations as to which one to attend, as a"newbie"? My goal is to
learn as much as possible about not only Electronic Resources management but
Print serials management as well. So far I am considering The ER & L
conference in Austin in April, and the NC Serials conference in March. I
would also consider the Charleston Conference in November, (although it's
not focused solely on electronic resources and may be too large for a first
timer? )

AM I missing any?

Thanks so much in advance for your advice!

Kathy
